Step Through

Turns a task into steps you can actually start — each one with a time and a finish line. Part of the Unpack platform.

Before we start

What Step Through does

Step Through takes a task — an assignment, a homework brief, a revision job — and builds the path through it. Every step has one action, how long it takes, and an explicit finish line so you always know when a step is done. The first step is always the smallest, because starting is the hardest part.

What Step Through is not
  • It is not a worksheet rebuilder — use Scaffold to add scaffolds into an existing worksheet
  • It is not an assessment audit — use Audit and Adjust to check a task for accessibility
  • It is not a generic checklist or to-do app — every step carries a time and a done-condition
  • It does not plan across weeks or due dates — that lives in Your Progress Dashboard, and your steps can be sent straight to it when they're built
Privacy

Task text and profile information are never stored. Each run is processed and discarded. Do not include real student names or personal information.

Scaffold rebuilds the document. Step Through builds the path through it. The two things Scaffold deliberately doesn’t do are the point of this tool: a time estimate on every step, and an explicit “you’re done when…” on every step. Not knowing how long something takes, or whether you’ve finished it, is what stops a task being started at all.

Context

Tell us about the student and the task, so the steps and the timings fit.

Describe the task

What has to be done? Upload the task sheet, or just describe it in your own words — a couple of sentences is enough. This does not need to be a formal document.
